Till Deaf Do Us Part
Bin zufällig über was bzgl. Inwiefern da was dran ist - keine Ahnung… Hier mehr darüber:
"For 25 years Kreator has sold merchandise using my artwork from the early eighties - without permission. Their best selling design is the PTK cover - a piece not comissioned by them, but something I'd already painted.
Their Demon Mascot grew from that painting, and I continued inventing more cover themes like the bridge in Terrible Certainty, and the sewn up eyes of the Demon Head, etc. - all seen on T-shirts around the world now for years.
Now, I disappeared long ago and had no idea of the success and popularity of the band, or the sales of this material. Since I had reverted to the original family spelling of La Vere, and moved to Greece... no one could find me. Obviously I therefore share some fault for having disappeared (with many people actually thinking that I was dead), so to ask them for all those years of royalties would not be the ethical thing to do.
I therefore simply decided to contact Karl Walterbach (their original producer), and after a few friendly emails I finally asked him about the merchandise situation. Although I assured him that I didn't want to cause anyone any trouble (but felt that I was owed at least something), he got angry and refused to answer any more of my emails.
I finally had to have a lawyer contact Mille, simply asking for a conversation to discuss the situation. Karl immediately responded on his behalf - basically to say fuck off, you have no rights. Not even on future sales.
German law however, is very much on the side of the artist in these matters, but the problem for me is, that if I let lawyers deal with it, Kreator will be forced to pay much more in damages than I think is necessary. Of course lawyers want money too...
I don't wish to create such a negative outcome to a relationship that Kreator and I obviously share in this life. We are supposed to be alternative to society's standards of conduct right?
What would you do? Please comment"
